Description:
There is a lot to love about Melbourne. This sophisticated world city in the south-east corner of mainland Australia inspires a deep passion in those who live here.
Melbourne is very much about lifestyle. It is no huge surprise to residents that their city has been ranked as one of the world’s most liveable cities.
Melburnians love the city's vibrant energy, restaurants, fashion boutiques, café-filled laneways, cool bars, unbeatable galleries, spacious parks and village-like inner suburbs, each with its own special character.
Melbourne is less than 200 years old and never sits still. Modern, cutting-edge designs add to the fascinating mix of heritage architecture and ensure the skyline is constantly changing. It is home to successful sporting teams like the Melbourne Storm (Rugby League), Melbourne Victory (Football) and a host of other sporting icons of Australia.
Sometimes, the best part of visiting a new city is when you depart from the tourist trail. While the big attractions can be great fun, often it’s the more subtle “insider” experiences that leave you feeling really satisfied.
You will be met by your guide for the day port side and start your visit to one of Victoria and Australia’s leading wine making areas, the Yarra Valley, a short drive from Melbourne, making it an ideal place to visit on all occasions.
Our route to the Yarra Valley takes us through some beautiful rural countryside where we have the opportunity to see wild kangaroos in their natural habitat.
With a picturesque backdrop of the Yarra Ranges, as well as renowned restaurants and cellar doors, wine and food lovers will revel in everything the Yarra Valley has to offer. You will have the opportunity to sample wine from boutique wineries off the major highways away from the potential crowds of the larger wineries and tour companies. This allows a more intimate experience.
Whilst in the area, we take some time to visit the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary. Regarded as Australia’s leading wildlife reserve, Healesville Sanctuary has over 200 species of Australian birds & Animals including koalas, kangaroos, platypus and countless rare & beautiful birds.
On the way back to the ship we will take a drive through the Dandenong Ranges. The Dandenong Ranges are stunning with quaint mountain villages, art and craft stores and breathtaking scenery.
