Day 3: Paihia - Cape Reinga

A Full on action packed day awaits, taking in the sights heading towards 'Cape Reinga', where on clear days you can see the distinct clash of the 'Tasman Sea' and the 'Pacific Ocean' as they meet. This has to be one of the best panoramic views that you can see while in New Zealand. Travel along ‘Te Paki Stream’ and ‘90-Mile Beach’ and try ‘sand boarding’ down some giant ‘sand dunes’ – great fun! We arrive back in Paihia early evening.

Day 4: Paihia - Waipoua Forest - Pakiri Beach

Today we travel to the fascinating 'Waipoua Kauri Forest' passing alongside the 'Hokianga Harbour' and driving through the tiny settlements of 'Opononi' and 'Omapere'. Upon arriving at the Waipoua Kauri Forest we visit 'Tane Mahuta', 'God of the Forest' – New Zealand’s largest Kauri tree – a truly pectacular view. After this we continue down along the West Coast highway to the fascinating 'Matakohe Kauri' and 'Pioneer museum' – where you will discover the role that the mighty trees have played in the lives of the early European arrivals to New Zealand.

We then visit the beautiful 'Pakiri Beach' where we spend the night near an unpopulated private beach on the East Coast of New Zealand.

Day 5: Pakiri Beach - Matakana Wineries - Auckland

The next day you will experience the splendid isolation and thrill of a 'Horse Trek' alongside the South Pacific Ocean. Here you will visit the ancient 'Pa site' of a paramount 'Maori chief', high above the Pacific Ocean. Experience a breathtaking view that reaches far and wide to the horizon. Tread the paths of his people. And enjoy the company of his descendants, and the stories they will share with you.

From Pakiri, it’s only a short drive to the wineries of the 'Matakana region'. Matakana is a small New Zealand town situated 10km east of Warkworth and less than one hour's drive north of Auckland.

Premium wines have been produced in the area for some time and there are several new vineyards being developed.

Almost all the vineyards are on slopes, which helps to drain the clay soils. Traditionally a red wine growing region there are now some outstanding white wines - especially Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. However the classic red varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinotage, Pinot Noir and Sangiovese have shown consistent excellence

From Matakana we return to Auckland where you are dropped off at your accommodation
