Description:
Join us today on an 'Eco-Trail of Distinction' to the fascinating 'Waipoua Kauri Forest'. We travel toward the West Coast past two tiny settlements Opononi, and Omapere, nestled in the Hokianga Harbour, reaching 'Waipoua Forest' allowing you an 'exclusive' guided visit of 'Tane Mahuta', God of the Forest - New Zealand's largest 'Kauri tree' - a spectacular view. Be endicted by the Myths and Legends presented by your personal Guide as they deliver the Cultural significance of this amazing tree species through song - 'waiata' and prayer - 'mihi'. This is a 'must-see and do' excursion for any visitor wanting to appreciate the importance of how Eco-systems have played such an important role in our evolvement.
After leaving Waipoua Forest, we make our way back to Omapere for lunch overlooking the picturesque Hokianga Harbour where the famous Maori navigator 'Kupe', called home. This concludes this informative and interesting visit in this part of Northland.
We return to the Bay of Islands for your 'Heritage -Trail' component of the days events and 'Waitangi' to relish in a guided tour of New Zealand's famous meeting house. A treaty between the Maori and the Europeans was signed some years later in Waitangi, and Northland became known as the 'birthplace of a nation'.
The 'Treaty House' stands proudly amidst a vast, peaceful park. Also of interest on the site is a fully carved Maori Meeting House, one of the largest remaining Maori war canoes and a superb visitor centre and gallery. 'Waitangi' is a place that all New Zealanders belong to - it is a 'must see' for any visitor interested in New Zealand's history and culture.
Your day has come to an end in the 'Bay of Islands' and we trust that this has enriched and enlightened your understanding of this important region of New Zealand as we make our way back to your Vessel for departure. |
